COMSATS GPA Calculator 2026 — Semester GPA, CGPA Tracker & Standing Checker (Official CUI Scale)

Calculate your COMSATS GPA the way CUOnline does — on COMSATS University Islamabad's official grading scale, reconstructed from CUI's own Fall 2022 result notifications and verified course-by-course against reported GPAs. Three tools on this page: a semester GPA calculator, a CGPA tracker, and a standing checker that applies COMSATS' real good-standing, probation and dismissal rules. Free, no sign-up, works on any device.

Read this first — the scale on this page is not the one most calculator sites print. CUI's official applied scale awards A at 90% and above (not 85%), uses the rounded grade points 3.7 / 3.3 / 2.7 / 2.3 / 1.7 / 1.3 (not 3.67 / 3.33 / 2.67), and has no D+ row at all — D (1.3) covers 50–54%. Every rival table we audited gets at least one of these wrong; the corrections chapter below names them with the official evidence. Minimum passing grade is D at 50%, not C.

Add every course you took this semester with its credit hours and your marks percentage (whole numbers, 0–100 — CUI marks are whole numbers by construction). WD (withdrawn) courses carry no grade points and are excluded from the GPA — do not enter them here.

Add at least one course with credit hours and marks.

Enter your previous CGPA and completed credit hours, then this semester's credits and GPA — the tracker computes your new cumulative CGPA.

Enter all four values (credit hours above zero).

COMSATS' verified undergraduate rules: good standing (GAS) means CGPA ≥ 2.00; probation (PB) is applied when CGPA falls below 2.00 at the end of a semester; a second successive probation ends in dismissal (DI). Enter your CGPA and whether you are currently on probation.

Enter your CGPA.

How to use this calculator

  1. Semester GPA: add one row per course — course name (optional), credit hours, and your marks percentage exactly as on your result. The calculator maps each mark to its official letter grade and grade point, then computes the credit-weighted average: GPA = Σ (grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ credit hours.
  2. CGPA Tracker: enter your previous CGPA with completed credit hours plus this semester's figures. CGPA = (prev CGPA × prev credits + sem GPA × sem credits) ÷ total credits.
  3. Standing Checker: enter your CGPA and your previous probation status. The verdict applies COMSATS' verified rules — GAS at 2.00+, probation below 2.00, dismissal on a second successive probation.

Enter whole-number marks (CUI reports marks as whole numbers). Do not enter WD (withdrawn) or NC (non-credit) courses — they carry no grade points and are excluded from the GPA.

The official COMSATS grading scale

This is the scale as CUI actually applies it — reconstructed from CUI's official Fall 2022 result notifications (BCS Semester 4 and Semester 8, Sahiwal Campus, generated by CUOnline; the SP21 batch is the Fall 2021 intake, the first under Grading Criteria Notification 4304 of the Academic Council, 2021). Every band and grade point below was cross-verified against the GPAs CUI itself reported, by recomputing transcripts by hand — six recomputations matched the official GPAs exactly. The notification PDF itself is not publicly available, so this table is labelled as reconstructed from official applied data, not quoted from the notification text.

Letter gradeMarks band (%)Grade pointsStatus
A90 – 1004.0Pass
A−85 – 893.7Pass
B+80 – 843.3Pass
B75 – 793.0Pass
B−70 – 742.7Pass
C+65 – 692.3Pass
C60 – 642.0Pass
C−55 – 591.7Pass
D50 – 541.3Pass (minimum)
FBelow 500.0Fail
Three things that make this table different from every rival site: (1) A starts at 90% — 85–89 is A− (3.7), verified across ~97 students in official notifications; (2) the grade points are the rounded 3.7 / 3.3 / 2.7 / 2.3 / 1.7 / 1.3 family — transcript arithmetic refutes the 3.67 / 3.33 / 2.67 variants; (3) there is no D+ row — marks 50–53 all map to D (1.3) in the official data, and no D+ appears anywhere. Absolute grading: your grade depends only on your own marks, never on your class.

Formulas

Semester GPA

GPA = Σ (grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ credit hours. Each course's marks map to a letter grade and a single fixed grade point from the table above; multiply by the course's credit hours, sum, and divide by total credit hours.

CGPA

CGPA = (previous CGPA × previous credits + semester GPA × semester credits) ÷ total credits. Equivalently, Σ (semester GPA × semester credits) ÷ Σ semester credits across all semesters.

Standing

GAS (good standing): CGPA ≥ 2.00 at the end of a semester. PB (probation): CGPA < 2.00 at the end of a semester. DI (discontinued/dismissed): a second successive probation — i.e., CGPA < 2.00 while already on probation. (UG Regulations §2.1.5, §2.1.17; CUI result-notification legends.)

Worked examples (every step shown)

Example 1 — Semester GPA: four courses

CourseCreditsMarksGradePointsWeighted
Programming Fundamentals395A4.03 × 4.0 = 12.0
Calculus382B+3.33 × 3.3 = 9.9
English371B−2.73 × 2.7 = 8.1
Islamic Studies255C−1.72 × 1.7 = 3.4
Total1133.4

GPA = 33.4 ÷ 11 = 3.04. Note the 71: several rival tables print B as 71–74, but CUI's official data maps 70–74 to B− (2.7). On this transcript the wrong band would have inflated the GPA to 3.11.

Example 2 — the 86% trap: why the A threshold matters

Take five courses, every one at 86%, 3 credits each. The tables on most calculator sites award A at 85%+, so they compute 5 × 4.0 × 3 = 60.0 ÷ 15 = 4.00. CUI's official data maps 85–89 to A− (3.7): 5 × 3.7 × 3 = 55.5 ÷ 15 = 3.70. The wrong A threshold costs 0.30 GPA points on every A-range course — the single most expensive error in the COMSATS calculator SERP.

Example 3 — the D/F cliff: three marks, 0.44 GPA points

Three 3-credit courses: 91 (A, 4.0 → 12.0), 73 (B−, 2.7 → 8.1), 52 (D, 1.3 → 3.9). Total 24.0 ÷ 9 = 2.67. Change only the third course to 49 (F, 0.0 → 0.0): 20.1 ÷ 9 = 2.23. Three marks across the 50% line move the GPA by 0.44 points — and remember, D (50–54) is a pass at CUI; several rival pages wrongly teach that anything below 60% fails.

Example 4 — CGPA tracker

Previous: 60 credits at CGPA 2.85 → 60 × 2.85 = 171.0 quality points. This semester: 18 credits at GPA 3.40 → 18 × 3.40 = 61.2. New CGPA = (171.0 + 61.2) ÷ 78 = 232.2 ÷ 78 = 2.98.

Example 5 — standing and medal eligibility

A student finishes the semester at CGPA 1.92, not previously on probation → Probation (PB). If the next semester also ends below 2.00 → Discontinued (DI) under §2.1.17. Separately, a graduating student at CGPA 3.78 with no failed or repeated courses, finishing in the minimum prescribed time, is eligible to compete for the Institute's Gold, Silver and Bronze medals (3.75+ threshold) — eligibility, not an automatic award.

5 mistakes other COMSATS calculators make

1. Teaching "minimum passing grade C (60%)". cgpacalculation.com prints this as fact — but CUI's official result notifications map 50–53 to D, both official handbooks state "D (minimum passing) 50–54", and the notification's own fail line sits below 50. At COMSATS, 50% passes; the page's own table contradicts its claim by showing D as non-failing at 50–52.
2. Shifting every band down. cgpacalculation.net prints B = 70–74%, C = 55–59%, A = 85%+, and D at 45–49%. Official data: 70–74 is B− (2.7), 55–59 is C− (1.7), 85–89 is A− (3.7), and 45–49% is an F — D starts at 50% with 1.3 points. Their worked examples are internally consistent but computed on the wrong scale.
3. Inventing a D+ row. Several 12-grade tables print D+ (1.3) at 53–56 and D (1.0) at 50–52. Across ~97 students in two official CUI notifications, marks 50, 51, 52, 53 all map to D — not one D+ appears anywhere, and the official handbooks have no D+ row either.
4. Fractionalized grade-point ranges. cgpacalculatoronline.net prints "A− 3.67–3.34", "B+ 3.33–3.01", down to "D 1.00–0.10". CUI uses absolute grading with one fixed grade point per band — and transcript arithmetic refutes the 3.67 family entirely (official: 3.7 / 3.3 / 2.7 / 2.3 / 1.7 / 1.3, verified by exact GPA recomputations).
5. Inventing a Dean's List. Multiple pages promise "Dean's List at 3.5+" with invented conditions. No Dean's List appears in any official CUI regulation we could find — COMSATS' official distinctions are the academic medals (Patron's Gold at 4.0; Institute's Gold/Silver/Bronze at 3.75+; Campus's Gold/Silver/Bronze at 3.50+), each with no-fail/no-repeat/minimum-time conditions. We credit gpawise.com here: it is the only rival page that cites real sources (Notification 4304, the Graduate Handbook, the medals notification) instead of inventing policies — though it computes none of them, which is what this page is for.

What this calculator deliberately does NOT compute

An unexplained missing feature reads as a thin tool; an explained one reads as honesty. Each omission below names the source that was read and what is missing:

  • Repeat-course mechanics. CUI's UG regulations (§2.1.8) allow repeating a course to improve the grade with department approval — but they do not state whether the new grade replaces the old, averages with it, or takes the best of both. Without that rule, any "repeat analyser" would be inventing policy. Check your department's current rule before planning a repeat.
  • Graduate (MS/PhD) standing. The Graduate Handbook 2023 is not publicly fetchable; its reported rules (2.5/4.0 good-standing floor, one-repeat rule, double-F dismissal) reach us only through secondary reporting. This page computes undergraduate rules only.
  • I (Incomplete) / FX codes. These do not appear in the UG regulations we read (only NC and WD/W are documented) — so they are not offered as inputs.
  • Fractional-percentage rounding. One secondary source claims percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number before band matching; the older official rule was "marks shall be in whole numbers" (no rounding step). CUI marks are whole numbers by construction, so this calculator maps your entered integer directly and flags the claim as unverified rather than baking it in.
  • GPA-to-percentage conversion. CUI result notifications report actual percentage marks per course — no official conversion formula appears in any CUI document we found. The popular "(GPA ÷ 4) × 100" is a generic approximation, not a COMSATS rule, so it is not presented as one here.

Academic medals at COMSATS

COMSATS awards medals — not a Dean's List — under the Registrar's Award of Academic Medals notification (criteria corroborated by §2.1.15 of the official UG regulations):

MedalCGPA threshold
Patron's Gold Medal4.0
Institute's Gold, Silver, Bronze3.75 and above
Campus's Gold, Silver, Bronze3.50 and above

Thresholds are eligibility to compete, not automatic awards — medals are decided on merit among the eligible students of one program and admission session. Conditions: no failed or repeated course, and the degree completed in the minimum prescribed time with no break (including no frozen semesters). One person may hold only one institutional medal at a time but may receive both a campus and an institutional medal; ties at the same CGPA (to two decimals) each get the medal; medals are awarded only at convocation.

FAQs

What is the official COMSATS grading scale?

COMSATS University Islamabad uses absolute grading on a 0.00–4.00 scale: A (90–100, 4.0), A− (85–89, 3.7), B+ (80–84, 3.3), B (75–79, 3.0), B− (70–74, 2.7), C+ (65–69, 2.3), C (60–64, 2.0), C− (55–59, 1.7), D (50–54, 1.3), F (below 50, 0.0). Reconstructed from CUI's official Fall 2022 result notifications and verified against reported GPAs.

Is there really no D+ at COMSATS?

Correct — no D+ row exists in the official applied scale. Across ~97 students in two official CUI result notifications, marks 50, 51, 52 and 53 all map to D (1.3); D+ appears nowhere, and the official handbooks have no D+ row either. Tables showing D+ (1.3) / D (1.0) trace to a garbled instructor course outline, not to any official notification.

Why does your A start at 90% when other calculators say 85%?

Because CUI's own result data says so: in the official Fall 2022 notifications, marks 85–88 map to A− and only 90+ maps to A. Every calculator printing "A at 85%" is using a generic HEC-style table, not COMSATS' applied scale — and the difference costs 0.30 GPA points on every A-range course (see worked example 2).

Are the grade points 3.7 or 3.67?

3.7. CUI's official transcripts show exact values — an A− course at 11.10 quality points ÷ 3 credits = 3.70, B+ at 9.90 ÷ 3 = 3.30 — and six hand-recomputed semester GPAs match CUI's reported figures exactly with the 3.7 / 3.3 / 2.7 / 2.3 / 1.7 / 1.3 family. The 3.67 / 3.33 / 2.67 variants fail the same recomputations.

What is the minimum passing grade at COMSATS?

D at 50%. Verified three ways: the official result notifications (50–53 → D), both official student handbooks ("D (minimum passing) 50–54"), and the grading-criteria notification as cited by sourced references. Pages teaching "minimum passing C (60%)" are wrong — and their own tables usually contradict them by showing D as non-failing.

When am I on probation at COMSATS?

Undergraduate probation (PB) is applied when your CGPA falls below 2.00 at the end of a semester. Good standing (GAS) is CGPA ≥ 2.00. A second successive probation — CGPA still below 2.00 while already on probation — ends in dismissal (DI). Use the Standing Checker tab above with your real numbers.

What CGPA do I need to graduate from COMSATS (BS)?

A BS degree is awarded on a CGPA of at least 2.0/4.0, with the program's minimum credit hours completed (typically 124–136 for BS programs), normally within 8 semesters and at most 12.

Does COMSATS have a Dean's List?

No Dean's List appears in any official CUI regulation we could find. COMSATS' official distinctions are the academic medals: Patron's Gold (4.0), Institute's Gold/Silver/Bronze (3.75+), Campus's Gold/Silver/Bronze (3.50+) — each with no-fail/no-repeat/minimum-time conditions, decided on merit among eligible students.
